On September 2nd, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un made a notable entrance into Beijing alongside his teenage daughter, Ju Ae. The duo arrived just in time to partake in China's grand celebrations for the 80th anniversary marking the end of World War II.

Greeted with Honor

Photos released by North Korea's state-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) depicted a warm welcome for Kim and Ju Ae upon their arrival at the Beijing Railway Station at 4 PM. High-ranking Chinese officials, including Cai Qi, chief of staff for President Xi Jinping, and Foreign Minister Wang Yi, were on hand to greet them.

Ju Ae's Major Debut

Interestingly, KCNA's report did not mention Ju Ae's presence, but she was seen proudly standing next to her father during the reception. This event marks her first appearance on an international stage since her debut in state media back in November 2022.

Analysts in Seoul are buzzing about the implications of Ju Ae’s attendance at this major diplomacy gathering, where she stands among global leaders like Xi and Russian President Vladimir Putin. Dr. Lim Eul-chul, a professor from Kyungnam University, remarked that her presence is essentially her introduction as a potential successor.

Dr. Lim emphasized the importance of external recognition in North Korean power succession, particularly from allies like China and Russia. He suggested that Ju Ae's participation in China's Victory Day events alongside her father is a strategic effort to bolster her status as a successor and gain necessary acknowledgment from these pivotal allies.

Adding to her diplomatic experiences, Ju Ae joined her father at several key events in 2025, including commemorating Russia’s Victory Day and attending a concert with the Russian Culture Minister.
