In an exciting appearance on the November 5th episode of KBS Cool FM's "Park Myung Soo's Radio Show," the head of JYP Entertainment, J.Y. Park, delved into various intriguing topics during the segment called "Masters of Legends." With the music industry constantly evolving, Park shed light on how Twice's music has not only dominated charts but has also set unprecedented records in copyright revenue.
Thrilled about his upcoming year-end concert, Park expressed his happiness over his sold-out show, stating, “This really is exciting news! The tickets sold out so quickly, which I find exhilarating. My greatest fear is announcing a concert and having the tickets remain unsold; it’s a terrifying thought that sometimes keeps me up at night. It took roughly two weeks for everything to sell out, and a week after ticket sales commenced, around 84% had already been sold.
Remembering the electrifying atmosphere of his concerts, Park remarked, “Nothing beats the thrill of playing the piano and hearing the audience join in. It fills me with joy to take out my in-ear monitor just to listen to the crowd.”
When asked about his health practices, he emphasized caution in dining choices, saying, “Being selective with what you eat is crucial. While I don’t partake in drinking much anymore, I still enjoy it with meals occasionally. It has been nearly ten years since I drank socially. I savor ramen from time to time, preparing it with care by using only half the noodle pack and adding bean sprouts, egg, and green onions.”
Discussing the success of JYP artists such as Twice and ITZY, J.Y. Park stressed their pivotal role in the company’s growth: “Their success is paramount. My personal success or failure doesn’t significantly affect our revenue. What’s essential is that I remain attuned to our industry. The true financial backbone of JYP relies on these artists’ achievements.”
Diving into the topic of copyright earnings, Park revealed, “The song that earns the most in terms of copyright is indeed from Twice. There’s a vast difference in the scale of their success compared to past hits. For instance, songs like Wonder Girls’ ‘Nobody’ and Twice’s ‘What is Love?’ differ by almost a factor of 100. Initially, I thought I must be misreading the numbers; they were just so staggering.”
He also reminisced about the Wonder Girls' U.S. debut, admitting, “I was aware that the chances of success were under 10%, but it was a worthwhile risk to take. I remain grateful and a bit remorseful towards the Wonder Girls for their brave efforts.” Proudly, Park highlighted, “Last year, the top album seller in the U.S. was none other than Taylor Swift, with Stray Kids securing the second spot.”
With their music making waves globally, it’s evident that Twice is not just a success story—it's a phenomenon that continues to push the boundaries of K-pop and influence the global music industry. Stay tuned as J.Y. Park and his roster of talented artists are set to redefine what's possible in the world of music!
