Juventus' Bold Move for Gyokeres
Juventus is reportedly gearing up to sell up to eight players in a major financial overhaul aimed at securing highly sought-after striker Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting Lisbon this summer.
At 27, Gyokeres is set to leave the Primeira Liga champions ahead of the next season, finding himself at the center of a fierce bidding war, with Premier League heavyweights Manchester United and Arsenal both vying for his signature.
Conditions Favoring Arsenal?
In a surprising twist, Gyokeres has reportedly turned down a move to Manchester United, where he would reunite with former Sporting coach Ruben Amorim. This turn of events could give Arsenal a significant advantage in their pursuit of the prolific striker.
However, the Gunners must remain vigilant as Serie A giants Juventus have entered the race, indicating serious interest in the Swedish international.
Juventus’ Financial Strategy Revealed
According to Corriere dello Sport, Juventus has communicated to Gyokeres’ representatives that they are prepared to meet his salary demands of £11 million a year. However, to make the deal happen, they must generate funds through player sales to meet Sporting's hefty €80 million asking price, comprising a €70 million base fee plus €10 million in potential bonuses.
High-Profile Players on the Block
To facilitate this ambitious transfer, Juventus has reportedly earmarked eight players for sale, including striker Dusan Vlahovic, who was the team’s top scorer last season with 15 goals.
Midfielder Douglas Luiz is also on the chopping block, just one year after his acquisition from Aston Villa. The club is banking on raising approximately €60 million (£51 million) through these sales.
Juventus Player Departures
With Vlahovic entering the final year of his contract and Luiz deemed surplus under new head coach Igor Tudor, who has taken over after Thiago Motta’s dismissal, a wholesale change appears imminent. Recent signings like Lloyd Kelly—acquired from Newcastle United for around £20 million—are also potentially on the market.
In addition, players including Arkadiusz Milik, Filip Kostic, Mattia Perin, Daniele Rugani, and Samuel Mbangula are also at risk of leaving, as they have fallen out of favor with the coaching staff.
Could Gyokeres Be Tempted by Juventus?
Gyokeres has made a name for himself as one of Europe’s most prolific forwards, having netted an impressive 97 goals and provided 28 assists in 102 appearances for Sporting since joining from Coventry City last July for roughly £21 million. Last season alone saw him score 54 goals and assist 13 times in 52 matches.
As Juventus seeks to bolster their squad with Gyokeres, the question remains: will the Swedish striker be tempted by a move to a team that finished fourth in Serie A and hasn’t claimed a top-flight title in the last five years?
