In a surprising twist, Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba has seen a dramatic jump in public support, soaring nearly 20 percentage points according to a recent Yomiuri newspaper poll released on August 25.

Following the ruling coalition's loss of its majority in the July parliamentary elections, Ishiba's cabinet approval rating has rebounded to 39%, a remarkable increase of 17 points from last month's figures.

One key reason for this surge appears to be Japan's newly secured trade deal with the United States, coupled with the government's proactive measures to boost rice production amid rising prices. These strategic moves are likely reshaping public perception.

Despite the election failure, Ishiba remains steadfast in his leadership, rejecting calls from within his Liberal Democratic Party to resign as a show of accountability.

When asked if he should resign following the electoral defeat, the poll indicated that support for his departure has dipped to 42%, a notable drop from 54% in the previous survey. Meanwhile, approval for him staying in office climbed to 50%, up from 35% last month.

As Ishiba navigates this political turbulence, the notable shift in public sentiment could play a pivotal role in his future and Japan's political landscape.
