Japanese astronaut Kimiya Yui, aged 55, is gearing up for an extraordinary long-term mission at the International Space Station (ISS) that could launch as early as July 2024, as revealed by NASA on Thursday.

A Second Journey to the ISS

This marks Yui's second journey to the ISS, having previously visited from July to December 2015. During that mission, he played a key role in docking a Japanese unmanned supply craft, showcasing his skills as a former pilot in the Japan Air Self-Defense Force.

Joining Forces for Space Exploration

This time, Yui will join forces with a trio of astronauts from the U.S. and Russia aboard NASA's SpaceX Crew-11 mission.

Timeline Adjustments

Originally slated to embark on this space odyssey next year, Yui’s timeline has been adjusted due to scheduling coordination between international space agencies.
