Liverpool's recent signing of Alexander Isak from Newcastle has shaken things up, putting Hugo Ekitike's spot in jeopardy. Former Manchester City star Joleon Lescott suggests that Ekitike, who had a promising start to the season, might find himself warming the bench.

Isak's transfer to Anfield, culminating in a record £125 million deal, has brought the Reds' summer spending over £400 million. Ekitike, who joined from Frankfurt for £79 million, initially impressed by scoring in various matches, including the Community Shield.

Yet, despite Ekitike's strong start, Lescott believes Isak's talent and investment will see him take the lead in Liverpool's attacking lineup. "You [Ekitike] can be on the Liverpool bench. You can be sitting down," Lescott remarked during his appearance on 'In The Mixer'. He likened Ekitike's situation to that of Julian Alvarez, who has been scoring goals but plays second fiddle to Erling Haaland.

Lescott emphasized that not all new signings need to fit into the first XI seamlessly. With high-stakes Champions League matches on the horizon, he believes Liverpool will need to rotate their squad effectively. "If you're playing against teams like Real Madrid and Manchester City, there are no easy games," he cautioned.

He also stressed the importance of Liverpool vying for trophies this season. Given their roster depth, they must aim to bag at least one major title, be it the Premier League or Champions League—provided their star players stay fit.

On a related note, a late move by Liverpool for Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi fell through due to complications, leaving them in need of cover at the center-back position. Lescott remains optimistic about Guehi's future prospects, suggesting a potential move could materialize in January.
