A New 'Walking Buddy' Feature? Or Just a Joke?

Imagine this: you're on a scenic hike, and what could make it better? Having someone to walk with, right? That’s the idea behind a so-called new service from Grab called 'Walking Buddy' that has recently caused quite a stir on social media.

A screenshot circulating in the Facebook group 'Singapore Hikers' hinted at this peculiar service, suggesting it would cost S$15 to walk from the west of Singapore to the east. But the internet wasn’t buying it.

Netizens Weigh In: Is It for Real?

Social media users quickly questioned its authenticity, with one user incredulously asking, "Who pays someone to walk with me?" while another humorously wondered, "Why are they holding hands?" The post featuring the claim has since vanished, but not before sparking plenty of laughs and skepticism.

Grab Responds: Just a Joke!

In an attempt to get to the bottom of the situation, 8days.sg reached out to Grab for clarification. The spokesperson firmly stated, "Given the myriad of spelling errors on the screenshot, it’s safe to say this should be considered a joke." They also confirmed that there are no current plans to roll out such a service.

Similar Pranks: A Trend in Ride-Hailing?

This isn’t the first time a ride-hailing app has faced similar scrutiny. Back in 2020, an image claiming to show a 'Walking Buddy' feature from Uber went viral, only to be revealed as a hoax.

With existing services like Grabshare and Grabhitch, one might wonder: is a walking buddy service really that far-fetched? Only time will tell!
