Unlocking Efficiency: The Dashboard That Changed Everything

In a groundbreaking move, Pei Hwa Secondary School in Singapore has transformed the way its teachers manage administrative tasks, saving each educator a staggering 60 hours of labor every year. Gone are the days of juggling multiple systems to prepare for parent-teacher meetings; now, teachers can effortlessly access comprehensive student information through a single, user-friendly Excel spreadsheet.

A Game-Changing Tool for Teachers

The innovation stems from a holistic student development dashboard, skillfully crafted by Mr. Kenneth Yeo Wei Qiang, the subject head of personal and aesthetic development. Originally built in 2018 using basic Excel skills honed during his auditing career, Mr. Yeo’s dashboard pools data from the Ministry of Education, school records, and post-secondary admission criteria—all into one convenient tool.

Recognizing its potential, Pei Hwa Secondary expanded the dashboard’s capabilities with the help of Ms. Shalini Tashnamurthi, head of infocomm technology, making it a resource accessible to all 88 teachers at the school. This collective initiative has since sparked interest from other schools eager to adopt the innovative approach.

Guiding Students Towards Bright Futures

What makes this dashboard so powerful? It maps out educational pathways for students by matching their current academic performance against entrance requirements of post-secondary institutions. This empowers teachers to guide students and their parents with vital information on suitable educational options based on grades and extracurricular involvement.

Mr. Yeo shared his journey: "Initially, the focus was solely on academic grades. Over time, we realized the importance of including non-academic information, and we have continuously refined the interface for better user experience."

Celebrating Innovation in Education

This remarkable project was among 11 recognized with the Minister’s Innovation Award on June 3 at the Teachers’ Conference and ExCEL Fest 2025, an event organized by the Ministry of Education to spotlight innovative practices in education.

Gamifying Learning: A New Era in Classrooms

Innovation wasn't limited to Pei Hwa Secondary. The event also honored educators like Mr. Daniel Chua Boon Hwee from Chongzheng Primary School, who is revolutionizing mathematics education through gamification. Noticing a lack of engagement among students, he transformed math lessons into thrilling learning adventures, resembling an escape room where students solve problems to progress through a storyline.

Taking inspiration from popular games like Pokémon Go, Mr. Chua devised an interactive approach that integrates gaming elements into the classroom experience. His students evolve in their learning journey through challenges that resemble gameplay, making education not just informative but also exhilarating.

The Future of Education is Here

With tools like Mr. Yeo's dashboard and Mr. Chua's gamified lessons, education is evolving to meet the needs of today’s digital citizens. As these educators continue to push the boundaries of traditional teaching, students are becoming more motivated and engaged, thriving in environments that blend learning with innovative technology.

Indeed, the teaching landscape is changing, and these pioneering efforts are just the beginning of a larger educational revolution!
