A Historic Gathering in Singapore

Get ready, Singapore! From September 21-27, the OCBC Aquatic Centre will witness history as Team Singapore sends its largest contingent yet, featuring nine exceptional swimmers at the Toyota World Para Swimming Championships.

Remembering Colin Soon

While excitement filled the air during the medal design and theme song unveiling on August 31 at The Star Vista mall, a poignant reminder of the late Colin Soon hung over the occasion. The ceremony honored his memory, marking the first public acknowledgment of his passing.

The championships kicked off with a stirring performance of 'Calling,' the event’s theme song. Local singer Olivia Ong teamed up with 13-year-old Nur Anisah Daaniys, a visually impaired goalball athlete, making the moment all the more special.

A Legacy of Inspiration

Adapted from a music project by the talented Colin Soon, who tragically passed away earlier this year, the theme song carries his spirit. With his family's blessing, the Singapore Disability Sports Council (SDSC) ensures his music will resonate at the championships.

Celebrating Talents and Triumphs

Colin's achievements speak volumes; he was a gold medallist at the ASEAN Para Games and represented Singapore internationally, including the Asian Para Games. His older sister Sophie, a Paralympic swimmer, will also compete in the upcoming championships, alongside fellow athletes like the remarkable Yip Pin Xiu, who aims to defend her titles.

Rising Stars and Their Inspirations

Among those making their world championship debuts are 25-year-old Danielle Moi, who has shifted her focus entirely to training after working in a family business. Inspired by trailblazers like Yip and former champion Theresa Goh, she is determined to follow in their footsteps.

"If they didn’t give up on their dreams, why should I?" she remarked, embodying the fighting spirit of Team Singapore.

Debut Aspirations

Also set to make a mark is Han Liang Chou, a 28-year-old swimmer balancing his passion with a sales job. His excitement is palpable as he eyes his chance to shine on the international stage.

A Glimpse into the Future

The ceremony also unveiled the innovative medals for the 2025 championships, designed by 19-year-old boccia athlete Aloysius Gan, showcasing the core Paralympic values: courage, determination, inspiration, and equality. As Team Singapore prepares, the spirit of Colin Soon and the promise of future stars intertwine, making this event not just a championship but a celebration of resilience and hope.
