2024-09-15

Jae's Emotional Journey After Leaving DAY6

In a candid radio interview on the U.S. show Zack Sang Show, Jae, the former member of DAY6 now known as eaJ, opened up about the emotional toll of leaving the beloved K-pop group in 2021. His departure has left fans and the music industry pondering the impact on both his life and the band.

Struggles with Memory and Anxiety

Jae shared that watching DAY6's activities and content has been a struggle for him. "It reminds me of a lot of stuff. For a long time, it was hard for me to even go back to Korea because every time I'd land, there was this feeling of anxiety and just resettlement." While he notes that his feelings have improved over time, the lingering sentiments speak to the profound attachment he had with the team.

Painful Revelations About 'Fourever'

When discussing the announcement of DAY6’s new album titled 'Fourever,' Jae revealed that it stung a bit, hinting at an underlying pain tied to the decision. “I don't think it was the band, but someone was trying to erase me out of the history of that,” he lamented. He emphasized the sacrifices he made for the team, stating, "I literally gave up my career in Korea for that team. I fought tooth and nail to promote however I could, and now that I'm gone, they're trying to erase all that.”

Yearning for Closure

He suggested that the name change may signify a quest for 'closure' by JYP Entertainment, expressing, “I feel like there was never any closure for them on that side... If that's the closure that they need, then I guess so be it. It's still going to hurt a little bit, you know.”

Transition to a Solo Career

Jae’s unexpected exit from DAY6 in December 2021 was the culmination of growing discontent he had expressed during live streams and public appearances. The change was notable; shortly thereafter, he transitioned to his solo career under the name eaJ, distancing himself from DAY6 and their label. Meanwhile, DAY6 has continued to thrive as a four-member unit and is currently promoting their 9th mini album, 'Band Aid.'
