In a bittersweet farewell, Sixth Floor Oyster Cake, a beloved eatery known for its traditional oyster cakes, has announced its permanent closure after five years of delicious service.
The shocking news was shared on their Instagram on September 15, revealing their last day of operation will be September 28. Fans of the bakery were left heartbroken as the owners disclosed that declining sales ultimately led to this heart-wrenching decision.
Despite implementing cost-cutting measures, including staff reductions and supplier negotiations, the business struggled to maintain its quality and operations. "We apologize for any decline in service quality caused by these changes," the owners expressed.
Rather than let the brand, which they nurtured with love, suffer further, they have decided to close their doors for good. A heartfelt message to their loyal patrons emphasized the meaningful support they've received over the years.
However, the founders remain optimistic about the future. "All good things must come to an end, but we hope this isn’t the final chapter for Sixth Floor. With time and the right opportunities, we aim to return and continue our journey," they shared.
Originally starting as a home-based project during the COVID-19 pandemic, Sixth Floor Oyster Cake quickly gained popularity, leading them to open a physical location at Northshore Plaza in October 2021. As their reputation grew, they expanded to two more outlets at Century Square and Northpoint City.
Back in March 2024, the team acknowledged their financial struggles, citing a significant sales decline due to various uncontrollable factors such as the economic downturn, rising interest rates, and global conflicts impacting consumer spending. They lamented that snacks are often the first to be sacrificed in tough economic times.
In a desperate attempt to stay afloat, the business even introduced ban mian, reasoning that while customers might cut back on snacks, they still need hearty meals.
Despite their efforts, the challenges proved insurmountable.
As the last day approaches, the culinary community and patrons are left to reminisce about the unique taste of Sixth Floor's oyster cakes and the warmth of its creators, hoping for a hopeful return in the future.
