In a shocking case that has sent shockwaves through the community, a 67-year-old man in Singapore has pleaded guilty to molesting his 13-year-old granddaughter on two separate occasions.

The disturbing events unfolded while the young girl was living with her grandfather. The first incident occurred in June 2024 when she complained of a stomachache and asked him for some relief. Rather than offering comfort, the grandfather took advantage of the situation by lifting her t-shirt under the guise of helping her. The girl was left momentarily stunned as he crossed a line by further exposing her.

When the grandfather attempted to touch her again, the girl firmly told him to stop, expressing her discomfort. However, the nightmare didn't end there. Just a few months later, in September, while sitting on the living room floor, the grandfather approached her unexpectedly, hugged her, and again preyed on her innocence by putting his hand under her clothing. The girl was shocked and immediately pushed him away, attempting to seek refuge in the bathroom.

Fearful and overwhelmed, she waited in the toilet until it became too hot and eventually emerged. Later that evening, she found the courage to confide in her mother about the traumatic events. This confession led to a police report being filed two days later, and her grandfather was arrested shortly afterwards.

During the court proceedings, Deputy Public Prosecutor Shaun Lim called for a substantial sentence of 23 to 28 months in jail, emphasizing the betrayal of trust from someone who should have provided a protective environment for his granddaughter. "He exploited the victim’s sense of security to commit these heinous acts not just once, but twice," argued the prosecution.

The man is scheduled to be sentenced on September 22. If found guilty of molesting a minor under 14, he faces a maximum penalty of five years in prison, alongside the possibility of fines or caning; however, being over 50 means he cannot be caned.
