Shanghai's vibrant West Bund is set to dazzle visitors with its enchanting Fantasy Waterfront Carnival, a spectacular two-month festival that promises to revive the holiday spirit. With a waterfront market, an exhilarating ice rink, captivating live music performances, and lively parades, this carnival is the perfect way to close out the year in style.
One of the main attractions is the Gate M West Bund Dream Center, a transformed former cement factory that now serves as a stunning landmark, brilliantly illuminated by nearly 1,000 sparkling lights each evening. These twinkling lights cast a magical glow along the 800-meter riverside promenade, creating a picturesque setting reminiscent of serene snowflakes drifting upon a starry night.
The entertainment doesn't stop there! During the festive season, the renowned Brass Band, known as China's premier jazz brass ensemble, will lead a vibrant parade along the waterfront. Attendees can look forward to uplifting musical performances and breathtaking float parades scheduled for December 24-25 and December 31, from 7 PM to 8 PM. This is an event that will not only get your feet tapping but will fill your heart with holiday cheer.
One of the highlights of the carnival is the Bow Market, a whimsical waterfront marketplace showcasing more than 60 unique brands from both local and international designers. Here, you can immerse yourself in a fairy-tale atmosphere while enjoying classic carnival games like ring toss and bean bag toss. The market will be open until January 1, 2025, taking a brief respite on December 26 and Mondays.
If you're looking for winter thrills, the carnival features Shanghai's first-ever outdoor riverside ice rink that spans over 1,000 square meters, providing stunning views of the iconic Huangpu River. Open until February 28, 2025, this ice rink is a must-visit destination for both locals and tourists. To enhance the experience, DJ performances will take place on December 24-25 and December 28-31, ensuring a lively atmosphere as skaters glide across the ice.
The Dream Center also welcomes the newly opened Mahua Triangle Theater, where popular comedy troupe Mahua Fun Age will be performing “The Hustle Dinner,” featuring Shanghai dialect dialogues that offer an engaging glimpse into the local culture.
And just when you thought it couldn't get any better, mark your calendars for December 24 when UrCove by Hyatt, inspired by the brilliant art of Piet Mondrian, begins its trial operations. Prepare to be amazed!
