A Sunny July Ahead!
SINGAPORE – Brace yourselves for a sun-soaked second half of July! According to the Meteorological Service Singapore (MSS), the coming days promise less rain and plenty of warm weather.
Prepare for steamy temperatures that could flirt with 34°C, especially during the daytime. Nights will also be warm and humid, particularly in the southern and eastern zones of the island, elevating the tropical experience.
Goodbye to Monsoon Showers?
The forecast indicates a drier spell compared to the first half of the month. While there may still be occasional short, thundery showers in the late mornings and afternoons, these will be fewer and farther between.
However, don’t let your guard down! One or two days might surprise us with widespread thundery showers and brisk winds, thanks to phenomena known as Sumatra squalls.
July's Weather Recap
Reflecting on the first half of July, Singapore faced localized thundery downpours almost daily, attributable to prevailing south-west monsoon conditions. On July 9, a significant convergence of winds led to moderate to heavy rains, with Sentosa recording a staggering 87.6mm of rain—the highest for the first two weeks.
Despite the wet weather, temperatures remained high, consistently exceeding 34°C on a couple of occasions, with Pulau Ubin hitting a peak of 34.2°C on July 6. Many parts of the island experienced warm nights too, with temperatures staying above 28°C.
Unusual Rainfall Patterns
Notably, most areas saw below-average rainfall during this period, while surprises emerged in specific locations. Clementi reported a remarkable 102% above-average rainfall, while Jurong Pier recorded a striking 36% below-average.
As we transition into the drier days of July, let the warmth and sunshine boost your spirits!
