Overview of the Transformation Project

SINGAPORE - Get excited, because by 2030, Sentosa Island will unveil a breathtaking new landscape featuring a vibrant cluster of developments amid lush greenery and a stunning 88-meter-high experiential “mountain trail.” This is part of a massive $6.8 billion transformation project undertaken by Resorts World Sentosa (RWS), which officially broke ground on November 15.

Key Features of the Project

Genting Singapore is spearheading this ambitious initiative designed to revamp RWS and strengthen its appeal in an increasingly competitive global tourism market. The project will introduce two luxury hotels, adding an impressive 700 rooms to the current inventory, which includes six existing properties: Crockfords Tower, Equarius Hotel, Equarius Villas, Hotel Michael, Hotel Ora, and a soon-to-be-replaced suites-only luxury accommodation currently known as the Hard Rock Hotel.

Expansion Details

Once completed, the RWS expansion will increase the current footprint by around 50%, contributing over 164,000 square meters of new gross floor area. The first phase, which focuses on expansive non-gaming attractions, began in the second quarter of 2022, setting the stage for a host of exciting new experiences.

Upcoming Attractions

Mark your calendars! Among the upcoming attractions is the highly anticipated “Harry Potter: Visions of Magic” interactive art experience, set to launch on November 22. Hot on its heels is the debut of Minion Land at Universal Studios Singapore, scheduled for the first quarter of 2025, followed by the grand opening of the Singapore Oceanarium in the first half of 2025. Boasting three times the size of the current S.E.A. Aquarium, the Oceanarium promises to include a deep-sea exhibit and a state-of-the-art research and learning center.

Government Support and Industry Insights

At the groundbreaking ceremony, Minister of State for Trade and Industry, Alvin Tan, emphasized the importance of innovation in the integrated resorts industry to stay ahead in a global context. He highlighted that the diverse range of attractions, food and beverage options, and the expansion of MICE (meetings, incentives, conventions, and exhibitions) facilities fortify Singapore's position as a premier destination for both leisure and business travelers.

Commitment to Sustainability

RWS CEO Tan Hee Teck further noted their deep commitment to sustainable development throughout this ambitious project. Designed with environmental consciousness in mind, the new developments aim to achieve the Building and Construction Authority's Green Mark Platinum certification. The construction will utilize innovative low carbon concrete, expected to significantly reduce carbon emissions—more than 29,500 tonnes, which is akin to powering over 15,000 Singapore Housing Development Board (HDB) flats for an entire year.

Conclusion

As the battle for attracting visitors intensifies, both Resorts World Sentosa and Marina Bay Sands (which opened its doors in 2010) are stepping up their game, ramping up their luxurious hospitality benefits to captivate both local and international tourists alike.

Stay tuned, because Sentosa’s transformation promises not just to redefine leisure experiences but also to position Singapore firmly on the global tourism map!
