Were you hoping to catch a glimpse of Gears of War: E-Day at the Xbox Games Showcase 2025? If so, you likely left feeling let down. The much-anticipated event was surprisingly sparse on fan-favorite titles, with notable absences including Forza, Halo, and the highly-anticipated Fable reboot.
However, hope is on the horizon! Xbox chief Phil Spencer confirmed that Gears of War: E-Day is officially set to release in 2026—a huge year for Xbox, coinciding with the brand's 25th anniversary. This new installment will take players back in time to explore the origins of beloved characters Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago, with voice talents John DiMaggio and Carlos Ferro reprising their iconic roles.
Announced last year at the Xbox Games Showcase 2024, Gears of War: E-Day promises an engaging prequel set 14 years before the original game, diving deep into the lore that makes the franchise a fan favorite. Coalition studio head Mike Crump has expressed excitement, stating that this game aims to capture the essence of what made Gears of War such a groundbreaking series.
Adding to the excitement, earlier this year, it was revealed that Bulletstorm and Gears of War: Judgment studio People Can Fly would be co-developing E-Day alongside The Coalition. This collaboration hints at a potentially fresh and thrilling take on the beloved franchise.
During the showcase, Spencer also hinted at a nostalgic return for Halo, suggesting that fans might soon see a remaster of the original game in the iconic series. Stay tuned for all the juicy announcements from the Xbox Games Showcase June 2025—there’s plenty more to come!
