SINGAPORE: The Singapore Democratic Alliance (SDA) candidly highlights the struggles many Singaporeans face today, from job security to housing affordability, and calls for actionable solutions to ensure a better future.
In a series of impactful videos released on April 29, SDA candidates voiced the urgent concerns of everyday citizens, emphasizing their vision for a more inclusive Singapore.
No Rallies, Just Real Talk
As part of a strategic shift, the SDA opted against traditional physical rallies for the May 3 General Election, choosing to engage the public through online platforms instead, delivering crucial messages directly to the people.
They are contesting the newly formed Pasir Ris-Changi Group Representation Constituency (GRC) after having participated in the area since 2006.
Facing the Reality
SDA chief Desmond Lim reflects on numerous conversations with residents who feel weighed down by escalating living costs, highlighting issues like expensive healthcare and limited job opportunities.
"Fifteen years later, under the PAP government, have we seen any changes to these challenges?" he asked earnestly, providing a stark reminder of the persistent struggles faced by citizens.
A Call for Change and Accountability
Party secretary-general Abu Mohamed emphasized the critical choice voters must make in this election, urging them to consider the long-term effects on future generations.
In a powerful statement, he proclaimed, "Your choice will determine the lives of our children and families for the next 15 years."
A Vision for an Equitable Future
The SDA has unveiled a clear manifesto focusing on tackling the high cost of living, improving job opportunities, ensuring affordable housing, and enhancing healthcare access. Lim articulated their commitment to hold the government accountable for its spending and ensure housing is within reach for young families.
Additionally, the SDA suggested a levy on Employment Pass holders and proposed the establishment of an independent body to oversee government expenditures—promising that such measures could generate S$2 billion annually.
Concrete Solutions, Not Empty Promises
Candidate Chia Yun Kai insisted, "This election, we bring you an action plan—a plan to improve your lives, not just slogans. We are committed to real, long-term solutions."
Mr. Lim articulated a powerful sentiment: "Singapore should be a home for everyone, not just the affluent. We aim to create a nation that is inclusive and supportive for all its residents."
