SINGAPORE – As Sengkang GRC prepares for the upcoming General Election in 2025, a potential new candidate from the Workers' Party (WP), Mr. Abdul Muhaimin Abdul Malik, has made a bold promise to residents in the Compassvale ward to address ongoing lift issues that have plagued the estate.
In an enthusiastic Instagram post dated April 1, Mr. Abdul Muhaimin, who has been serving as a senior property manager at Aljunied-Hougang Town Council (AHTC), expressed his commitment to tackling the lift problems that residents have consistently raised. He emphasized the importance of reliable lifts, particularly for the elderly, highlighting them as a crucial aspect of everyday life in Singapore.
"This is not just a campaign issue; it's about improving the lives of our residents," he stated. "I will collaborate closely with the current WP MPs in Sengkang GRC to get to the root of these lift problems and ensure a better living environment for everyone."
Mr. Abdul Muhaimin's involvement in the community is not new; he has been actively participating in monthly Meet-The-People Sessions in Compassvale, currently under the mentorship of Aljunied GRC MP Faisal Manap. This strong grassroots presence suggests he is well-versed in understanding community needs and concerns.
His potential candidacy comes in the wake of Ms. Raeesah Khan's resignation in December 2021, which led to a significant reshuffling within the WP's Sengkang team. Since then, remaining MPs, including Ms. He Ting Ru, Mr. Louis Chua, and Associate Professor Jamus Lim, have divided responsibilities in the Compassvale area to maintain engagement with constituents.
Although not officially announced, Mr. Abdul Muhaimin's profile as a politician is gaining traction, with a Facebook page created to support this emerging candidacy shortly after his Instagram groundwork post. Additionally, the Elections Department has stipulated that Sengkang GRC must include at least one candidate from the Malay community, further heightening interest in his potential role.
As a notable figure in the community, Mr. Abdul Muhaimin has been actively engaging with residents during various local events, including mass gatherings and townhall meetings where MPs address national and local issues. His presence at these events showcases his dedication to understanding the concerns of the constituents and providing relevant solutions.
Mr. Abdul Muhaimin brings valuable experience to the table, having studied at Tampines Junior College and served as a platoon commander in the Singapore Civil Defence Force. He graduated from Nanyang Technological University in 2015 with a degree in mechanical engineering and began his career at AHTC, swiftly moving up the ranks due to his effective management skills.
Under his management, AHTC has received accolades from the government for its top-tier performance in various areas, including lift reliability and overall estate cleanliness. This achievement underscores Mr. Abdul Muhaimin's capability to enhance the living standard in Sengkang.
As the election date approaches, the community is keeping a close eye on Mr. Abdul Muhaimin's developments and the potential impact of his candidacy on Sengkang GRC. His proactive stance and detailed plans for community engagement could very well play a significant role in shaping the constituency's future and addressing the longstanding lift issues that have resonated throughout residents’ daily lives.
