Hideki Kamiya, the mastermind behind Capcom's iconic hack-and-slash series Devil May Cry, has sparked excitement by revealing his openness to remaking the franchise's inaugural title. He acknowledges that the original, released back in 2001, could greatly benefit from modern advancements in game design.

Revisiting the Past on a Modern Stage

During a recent Q&A on his YouTube channel, Kamiya enthusiastically responded to fans curious about a potential remake. "Of course I’d love to do that," he stated, reflecting on the aging game footage and noting, "this really does feel like a 24-year-old game design."

A Vision for the Future

Kamiya envisions a complete overhaul, saying, "With today’s technology and game design approach, I would want to remake it from the ground up." However, he emphasized that nothing is currently in the works, leaving fans hanging in anticipation: "If the time comes, I’ll come up with something. That’s what I do!" He cheekily added a plea to Capcom, saying, "Leave it to me! Also, let me handle Viewtiful Joe too!"

The Legacy of Devil May Cry

The original Devil May Cry has spawned five major titles from 2001 to 2019, securing its place in gaming history. Kamiya, who led the project initially, transitioned to PlatinumGames before creating a new studio called Clovers in 2023. This new venture is already collaborating with Capcom on a highly anticipated sequel to Okami, revealed at last year’s Game Awards.
