Empowering Future Leaders at ITE
In an exciting new initiative, students at Singapore’s Institute of Technical Education (ITE) are set to receive invaluable support in their career journeys. The 'JumpStart' mentorship program aims to inspire Higher Nitec students to pursue the Work-Study Diploma (WSDip) following graduation.
Funded by Visionary Partners
This groundbreaking program is backed by the Quantedge Foundation Singapore and is in collaboration with The Astronauts Collective. Over the next five years, it will provide students with a unique opportunity to connect with mentors who are industry professionals and experienced alumni.
A Timely Intervention in Uncertain Times
Speaking at the signing ceremony during the annual WorldX career festival, Senior Minister of State for Education Janil Puthucheary highlighted the importance of career guidance in today’s volatile job market. With shifting economies and evolving technological landscapes, students face challenges in securing jobs that meet their expectations.
Your Path to Success Starts Here!
The mentorship can commence at three key stages: during the final year internship, while applying for the WSDip program, or within the first year of the WSDip course. Participants will engage in a minimum of six mentoring sessions, ensuring ongoing support throughout their transition.
Growing Numbers, Growing Opportunities
Since its inception in March 2025, the program has significantly impacted over 150 students across all ITE colleges, with a goal to assist 100 more by year-end. ITE's chief executive, Ms. Low Khah Gek, has expressed hopes to ramp up intake significantly, targeting 2,000 WSDip students by 2030—an increase of 400 from this year.
Real Talk: Mentorship in Action
One of the participants, 21-year-old Muhammad Zulfaqar Muhammad Rizal, has found the mentoring experience transformative. Paired with his mentor, Ms. Goh Ying Xuan, he has navigated real-world challenges together, gaining insights that strengthen his confidence in the workplace.
From School to Work: Bridging the Gap
“A mentor can help emotionally, especially during tough times,” Mr. Zulfaqar shared. He has learned key skills in communication and time management, ensuring he maintains focus whether at work or in class.
Unlocking Potential with Hands-On Guidance
With compelling mentorships like this paving the way, ITE students are better equipped to face their futures head-on, blending education with practical skills that lead to meaningful employment.
Conclusion: A Bright Future Awaits!
As the JumpStart program takes off, the future looks promising for ITE students who are eager to step into the workforce with confidence and competence. With mentorship helping to illuminate their paths, the possibilities are endless!
