The Deceptive Scheme Unfolds

Between September and December 2022, Tiang preyed on friends, colleagues, and online customers, using her position in a logistics company to market non-existent investment opportunities that promised returns of 15 to 25 percent. Victims believed they could buy iPhones at unbeatable prices, only to find their pockets emptied.

Victims Left Empty-Handed

One notable victim, a 19-year-old man, spent over $14,000 on what he believed were legitimate electronic product deals, only to receive nothing in return. As the scam began unraveling, Tiang continued her deceit, remarkably scamming five more individuals even as police investigations commenced.

Facing Justice

On September 16, Tiang pleaded guilty to five of 19 charges against her. In total, prosecutors revealed that she managed to swindle 18 people out of a staggering $276,808. Despite her fraudulent claims of profitable investments, the money she collected was primarily funneled toward repaying gambling debts and personal expenses.

The Court's Decision Awaits

The prosecution is pushing for a significant jail sentence of 33 to 35 months, emphasizing the need for justice for her victims. Tiang was arrested on February 10, 2023, and after a psychiatric evaluation declared her mentally sound, she was released on bail shortly thereafter. The case has been adjourned until October 1 for sentencing.
