The Rescue Mission Begins

Local dog rescuers spotted the terrified pup hiding away and quickly devised a plan to bring him to safety. However, it wouldn’t be a simple task. Billy was wary of humans and dashed away from anyone who approached.

Rescuer Say Smith, alongside her dedicated team, spent two arduous days tracking his movements. Their perseverance paid off when they finally managed to trap the elusive pup.

Restoration and Recovery at Baldwyn Veterinary Hospital

Smith contacted PAWS New England for assistance, leading to Billy being taken to Baldwyn Veterinary Hospital. There, veterinarians discovered he had a broken leg, anemia, and embedded bullet fragments in his front legs and side. A comprehensive treatment plan was developed, and Billy was placed in the caring hands of medical foster, Denise Belt.

A Foster Home Filled with Patience and Love

Initially, Billy's past left him confused and afraid. He avoided eye contact and did his best to remain invisible in his new environment. In a heartfelt post, Belt shared, "For the first few days, he made no eye contact and tried very, very hard to be invisible." But Belt refused to give up. Every day, she showered him with gentle affection, coaxing him out of his shell with food and kindness.

Slowly but surely, Billy began to find comfort in Belt's presence, eventually wagging his tail and joining her in the kitchen, signaling a monumental shift in his spirit.

Though Billy’s past was marked by pain and fear, his future is now filled with hope. As he continues to heal—both physically and emotionally—he will eventually be ready to find a forever home.
