In a groundbreaking move for Singapore football, billionaire tech mogul Forrest Li, owner of the Lion City Sailors, is on track to become the next president of the Football Association of Singapore (FAS). This pivotal election is scheduled for April 28, where Li's slate is the only one qualifying for the council election.

Li's formidable team boasts notable figures such as Tampines Rovers chairman Desmond Ong, Hougang United chairman Bill Ng, Sailors general manager Tan Li Yu, Burnley FC chief of staff Sean Bai, and national team captain Hariss Harun. Together, they aim to revolutionize the local football landscape.

"Football is more than just a sport; it's a powerful catalyst for community pride and unity," Li asserted in a recent statement. He expressed a heartfelt ambition to bring joy and lasting memories back to Singapore football.

During his presidency, Li’s strategy will revolve around collaboration among all football stakeholders to drive real, meaningful change throughout the football ecosystem. His vision places emphasis on unifying efforts to uplift the sport nationally.

This extraordinary congress will see a unique voting process wherein a nine-member slate will be elected collectively, with one designated as FAS president. Notably, Ong is anticipated to become Li's deputy, while Ng, Tan, Bai, and Hariss will assume vice-presidential roles.

In addition, an individual election will allow for the selection of six more council members, including former national players like Aide Iskandar and Aleksandar Duric.

Among the candidates, Yeong Sheau Shyan, head of women’s football at the Sailors and a former national player, stands out as the only female candidate. Her anticipated election aligns with FAS requirements ensuring gender representation on the council.

Those elected will serve a four-year term from 2025 to 2029.

Li, the visionary founder of Sea, previously hinted at his unopposed run for the presidency following the disqualification of a candidate from former Balestier Khalsa vice-chairman Darwin Jalil’s team. As anticipation builds for the upcoming election, one thing is clear: Forrest Li aims to reignite Singapore’s football passion.
