Ex-Yoga Instructor's Legal Drama Unfolds

In a shocking turn of events, Rajpal Singh, a 35-year-old former yoga instructor, has been granted a discharge from two remaining molestation charges involving a fourth woman in Singapore. This decision comes after he was sentenced to 23 months in prison and subjected to four strokes of the cane in August 2024 for sexually assaulting three other victims.

Charges Dropped After Key Factors Considered

The Attorney-General's Chambers announced that the prosecution applied for a discharge, effectively acquitting Singh of the charges based on several considerations, including the 26-year-old victim's relocation from Singapore. On March 19, the court officially granted the discharge, preventing Singh from facing further charges related to these specific claims.

Chronicle of Offenses and Trial

Singh was found guilty of molesting three women during yoga classes at Trust Yoga between 2019 and 2020. After a 13-day trial, District Judge Sharmila Sripathy convicted him of five charges linked to these incidents. The victims, known as Ms C, Ms V, and Ms R, recounted disturbing experiences during their classes, where Singh took advantage of vulnerable positions, like the 'forward fold' pose.

Entangled in Allegations: The Case of Ms Y

Singh was also accused of molesting a fifth woman, Ms Y, who testified about alleged incidents in 2020. However, the judge found inconsistencies in her support for Singh, leading to an acquittal on these specific charges.

Future Uncertain: Appeals and Concerns

Despite his release from the remaining charges, Singh is set to appeal his conviction and sentence. His bail has been set at $50,000 as he navigates the complexities of his legal situation. This case continues to raise serious concerns about safety and accountability in the yoga community, leaving many questioning the measures in place to protect students.
