In a surprising turn of events during his 100th birthday celebrations, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad found himself feeling unexpectedly fatigued after an early cycling activity in Putrajaya, prompting an early exit alongside his wife.

According to his aide, Mr. Sufi Yusoff, the beloved former Prime Minister was admitted to the National Heart Institute (IJN) shortly after 10 am to rest, as he had shown signs of exhaustion. "Yes, Tun Mahathir was truly fatigued. He left the event early and is now resting. His condition is okay, but he has been advised to take some time off at IJN," Mr. Sufi confirmed.

The birthday bash, which featured a picnic and potluck at the Perdana Leadership Foundation, was meant to be a grand affair marking a century of Dr. Mahathir's influential life. Despite his early departure, the event left a significant impact on the attendees, with many expressing their heartfelt wishes and gifts.

Among the participants was 51-year-old Ms. Nickozie Mazlan, who crafted a special T-shirt with Dr. Mahathir’s image, as well as a wooden block engraved with his name. "We had prepared these gifts, but unfortunately, he had to leave. I hope we get another chance to present them to him," she lamented, yet cherishing the brief moment of meeting Dr. Mahathir and his wife, Dr. Siti Hasmah.

Young political enthusiast Su Wilma Ishika Mohd Azlan Shah, 21, shared her admiration for the former leader, noting, "Dr. Mahathir is an inspiring figure for us young people. His leadership and resilience are truly admirable. I also wanted to meet Dr. Siti Hasmah since we share the same birthday!"

Retired engineer Ahmad Shukri Shukor, 63, made a heartfelt effort by bringing 44 residents from Bukit Setiawangsa to enjoy the morning with Dr. Mahathir, highlighting the community's affection for their former prime minister.

Mr. Ramchandran Sekaran, a mechanic from Ampang, shared how special the moment was for him and his children. "This is a unique chance for my kids to meet someone as notable as Dr. Mahathir. It’s important for them to see such public figures at a young age," he stated.

The event, though cut short, showcased the affection and respect the Malaysian public holds for Tun Dr. Mahathir, who remains a prominent figure in the nation’s history.

As of now, Dr. Mahathir is expected to be discharged from the hospital later today, allowing him to recuperate after his exciting yet exhausting birthday celebration.
