SINGAPORE – Exciting news for lower-income families in Singapore!

In a significant move to celebrate SG60, FairPrice Group (FPG) has announced that it will double the discounts available to Community Health Assist Scheme (Chas) blue and orange cardholders, effective from January 1 until March 1, 2025. This initiative is designed to ease the financial burden on these families amidst rising living costs.

Increased Discounts

Every Thursday and Friday during this two-month period, the standard 3% discount for Chas blue and orange cardholders will be boosted to an incredible 6%. This generous offer will be available at all FairPrice supermarkets and Unity outlets across the nation. Notably, the blue card is available for households with a monthly income of $1,500 or lower, while the orange card caters to those with a monthly income ranging from $1,501 to $2,300.

How to Avail the Discounts

To take advantage of these discounts, eligible customers must present either their physical or digital membership cards via the Singpass app at a checkout. For self-service machines, selecting the appropriate discount option is essential to apply the savings.

CEO's Statement

FairPrice Group's CEO, Vipul Chawla, highlighted that this initiative is just the beginning of a year-long celebration to commemorate Singapore's 60th anniversary of independence. He emphasized that the deeper discounts not only honor the community's support but also reflect the success of a recent charity food donation drive, 'A Full Plate,' which raised an impressive $1.6 million for 600,000 beneficiaries from ten charitable partners, including The Food Bank Singapore and Food from the Heart.

Charity Food Donation Drive

This donation drive, held from October to November 2024, allowed Singaporeans to contribute by purchasing curated grocery bundles and meals across 570 participating outlets, including FairPrice, Unity pharmacies, Cheers, and Kopitiam. Mr. Chawla noted, “This campaign showcases the incredible compassion of Singaporeans, even during challenging economic times marked by inflation.”

Addressing Financial Challenges

Importantly, he pointed out that food and grocery expenses account for over 20% of an average household’s budget in Singapore, suggesting that lower-income families face an even greater financial challenge. In line with this, NTUC secretary-general Ng Chee Meng reaffirmed NTUC's commitment to supporting workers and ensuring no one is left behind as Singapore embarks on its SG60 celebrations.

Additional Initiatives

In addition to these substantial discounts, FairPrice Group has rolled out several other initiatives in 2024 designed to support consumers with their grocery spending. These include price freezes on select items leading up to the Chinese New Year, NTUC Union and Link member deals worth $4.5 million for May Day, and vouchers totaling $2,000 offered to consumers for purchasing essential products at discounted rates from June to September.
