SINGAPORE – Get ready for a major urban makeover! The Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) has just unveiled its Draft Master Plan 2025, promising a wealth of new housing areas, lush parks, and vibrant community hubs. This comprehensive blueprint will shape Singapore's landscape for the next 10 to 15 years and is currently on display at The URA Centre until November 29, with additional exhibitions planned across the island.

1. Brand New Neighbourhoods Coming Your Way!

Exciting residential developments are set to transform areas like Kranji, where new public and private homes will rise on the site of the former Singapore Racecourse. In addition, Dover will see fresh housing, while around 5,000 new homes are planned for Newton. Paterson is also on the list, with 1,000 new private homes and an innovative mixed-use space above Orchard MRT station. Even Defu is being studied for housing potential, expanding Singapore's residential footprint beyond traditional boundaries.

2. Cutting-Edge Integrated Community Hubs!

Three groundbreaking integrated community hubs are in the pipeline for Sengkang, Woodlands North, and Yio Chu Kang, conveniently located next to MRT stations. These hubs will blend sporting facilities, healthcare, and communal spaces, similar to the much-loved Our Tampines Hub, ensuring residents have everything they need at their fingertips.

3. A New Business Node in Bishan!

Bishan is set to become a bustling business hub with the introduction of new mixed-use developments in the town center. Expect government agencies to relocate here, along with a fresh hawker centre and polyclinic, rejuvenating the area and enhancing its appeal as a thriving commercial space.

4. A Nature Bonanza in Kranji!

Nature lovers rejoice! Authorities are assessing plans to introduce four new parks in Kranji, forming a beautiful nature corridor. This initiative includes green spaces and waterways, fostering ecological connections while providing delightful leisure options for residents.

5. Preserving History: Conservation of Heritage Buildings!

The draft masterplan proposes conserving over 30 historic buildings, including the iconic Steel Pavilion from the 1960s, honoring its contribution to Singapore’s infrastructure. Buildings like the former Pasir Panjang English School and various structures at the former Bukit Timah Turf City will also be preserved, merging the old with the new.

6. More Unique Identity Nodes!

The URA has identified three additional identity nodes at Newton, Moonstone Lane Estate, and Siglap, increasing the total to 21. These nodes will embody distinctive local charm and character, with design guidelines to maintain their unique essence.

7. Enhanced Pedestrian Connections!

To boost accessibility, a new elevated pedestrian link will connect Dhoby Ghaut to Fort Canning. This initiative will also incorporate upgrades to create a scenic new park featuring Istana Park and Dhoby Ghaut Green, making it easier and more enjoyable for everyone to navigate the area.

8. Innovative Plans for Jurong Bird Park!

Exciting redevelopment ideas for Jurong Bird Park and Jurong Hill are also on display, integrating spaces for work and recreation. The winning concept includes transforming Jurong Hill Tower into a museum of industrial heritage while introducing outdoor entertainment venues on the hill.
