SINGAPORE - If you’re expecting a baby in 2025, hold onto your hats! The Singapore government has announced that new parents can look forward to receiving a special gift as the nation gears up to celebrate 60 years of independence.

Indranee Rajah, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office, hinted at this exciting announcement through a Facebook post on November 5, though she kept the specifics under wraps for the time being.

Highlighting the significance of SG60, Ms. Indranee—who also serves as the Second Minister for Finance and National Development—stressed that this milestone is a celebration of the unique Singaporean values that unite the diverse community amid varying races, religions, and backgrounds. "We envision a future where families as the bedrock of our society continue to grow," she shared, underscoring the importance of parenthood in shaping Singapore’s narrative for the next generation.

"More Singaporean families and babies are essential for our nation’s story to unfold," she continued. “As we prepare to cross into our 60th year of nationhood, a special gift for our SG60 babies is on the horizon.”

Prime Minister Lawrence Wong also weighed in earlier, unveiling the upcoming SG60 celebrations during a People’s Association event. He expressed hope that this milestone would ignite a renewed commitment among citizens to advance Singapore towards a brighter and better future.

With the theme "Building Our Singapore Together," a plethora of engaging programs will be organized throughout 2025 as part of the celebrations. Highlights will include Racial and Religious Harmony Month, a Singapore Pavilion showcasing the nation at Expo 2025 in Osaka, and the heritage project, "Project Citizens – The First Million," which seeks to gather stories from the founding generation of Singaporeans.
