Breaking News: New Two-Car Trains Hit the Tracks!

SINGAPORE: Get ready for a new commuting experience! The first two of 25 cutting-edge two-car trains have officially started service on the Sengkang-Punggol Light Rail Transit (LRT) line. This major upgrade was announced by the Land Transport Authority (LTA) and SBS Transit.

Ride the Future – Here's What to Expect!

These state-of-the-art trains began operations on Tuesday, July 15, and will first run on the Punggol West and East loops over the next two weekends. Regular weekday service is set to commence by the end of July. Each train is designed to carry around 200 passengers, significantly boosting the line's capacity!

A Sneak Peek into the Future of Commuting

Looking ahead, the remaining 23 trains will gradually make their way to the public, entering service through the third quarter of 2025. By the time this transition is complete in 2028, Punggol and Sengkang will see the full replacement of the older first-generation fleet with 33 modern two-car trains.

Safety Meets Comfort!

These new trains come equipped with inter-car doors, enhancing safety and enabling quicker evacuations in case of emergencies. The aim? To provide a safer, more efficient commuting experience!

An Expanding Infrastructure to Match!

To accommodate these new trains, the Sengkang-Punggol LRT depot will expand from 3.5 hectares to a whopping 11.1 hectares. This enlargement will ensure we have the necessary stabling and maintenance facilities.

Community Impact: Local Leaders Weigh In!

The excitement surrounding the new trains is palpable! Senior Minister of State for Transport Sun Xueling expressed the community's anticipation, stating, "Residents of Punggol and Sengkang have been looking forward to this development for many years now." She was present at the launch alongside prominent local MPs, including Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong.
