A Bold Initiative to Empower Young Leaders

SINGAPORE: In a groundbreaking move to ensure a vibrant future for Chinese community organizations, the Singapore government has launched a new initiative set to discover and nurture 100 promising young leaders over the next five years.

Unveiling the Chinese Community Leadership Course

Announced by Prime Minister Lawrence Wong at the recent National Day Rally, the Chinese Community Leadership Course aims to identify and guide promising leaders in their 30s and 40s. The program is spearheaded by the Singapore Federation of Chinese Clan Associations (SFCCA) and the Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCCI), with support and funding from the government.

Transforming Aspirations into Action

"This course is designed to provide pinnacle training for the younger leaders in the Chinese community," stated Chee Hong Tat, chair of the Chinese Community Liaison Group (CCLG) and National Development Minister. The CCLG emphasizes that the program is tailored for those actively engaged in community service and eager to deepen their understanding of critical issues facing Singapore.

A Comprehensive Curriculum for Future Leaders

Aspiring participants can look forward to a robust curriculum that includes modules on strategic leadership, organizational skills, and networking opportunities. They'll engage directly with political figures and senior community leaders, gaining invaluable insights into government policies.

Starting Mid-2026 – Be Ready!

The inaugural course is set to kick off by mid-2026, with nominations opening in late 2025. Chee highlighted that this initiative will expose leaders to influential aspects of leadership development, covering Singapore’s societal landscape and the global changes influencing geopolitics.

Striving for Integration and Unity

The program will also tackle challenges such as integrating new immigrants and fostering collaboration among different ethnic groups in Singapore. Chee notes that young leaders often come from diverse backgrounds, sharing a common passion for community service.

Community Involvement is Key

Clan associations and community groups will have a pivotal role in nominating candidates, ensuring that those chosen embody the values and leadership qualities required to make a positive impact.

Embracing Digital Transformation for Clan Associations

In tandem with these leadership efforts, the government will assist clan associations in modernizing their operations. Smaller groups often face challenges in adopting digital solutions. To address this, a series of shared digital services will be developed, covering aspects like finance, HR, and event management.

With funding support from the government, these transformations will enable clan associations to focus on engaging members and designing programs that attract younger generations. This initiative heralds a new era for the Chinese community, paving the way for dynamic leadership and active societal participation.
