Families to Enjoy Unprecedented Access to New HDB Flats!
Get ready for a groundbreaking change in Singapore’s housing landscape! Beginning July 2025, Singaporean singles will finally receive priority access to HDB flats when applying for homes near or with their parents. This move aligns with the introduction of the new Family Care Scheme (FCS), set to revolutionize the way families secure housing.
Details of the Family Care Scheme Unveiled!
As announced by the Housing Development Board (HDB), the FCS will debut during the July sales exercise, although the specific date remains under wraps. Previously, priority access was limited to married couples. Now, every child, whether single or married, can embark on their housing journey alongside their parents, fostering closer family ties in living arrangements.
Understanding the Two Components of FCS!
The FCS comprises two innovative components: FCS (Proximity) and FCS (Joint Balloting). The FCS (Proximity) will prioritize families who wish to live near each other, regardless of their marital status, marking a significant shift from the former Married Child Priority Scheme. Meanwhile, the FCS (Joint Balloting), scheduled for late 2025, allows parents and adult children to jointly apply for two units within the same BTO project, further promoting multi-generational living.
More Flats for Second-Timer Families!
In a bid to support upgrading aspirations, HDB is also increasing the allocation of BTO flats available for second-timer families. These families will enjoy a 5% increase in the quota for 3-room and larger flats, bringing it to 20%. This means more opportunities for families looking to upgrade their living conditions.
Financial Support Gets a Boost!
Further aiding families is the expanded Fresh Start Housing Grant, which will jump from $50,000 to a whopping $75,000 for eligible second-timer families. This grant will empower more families to obtain a flat, especially those with children who are currently renting.
What’s in Store for the Future?
With over 10,000 new flats expected to be offered in the upcoming July sales exercise, including at least 5,500 BTO units, this new policy is set to create a buzz in Singapore’s housing market. As Minister for National Development, Chee Hong Tat, mentioned, this initiative is not just about providing flats but enhancing family cohesion and making homeownership accessible to everyone.
