Moreover, the customization options are a boon for those who wish to tailor the app to their preferences. Want your most cherished Memory Movies closer to the top? You can easily rearrange the layout! This flexibility includes pinning your favorite collections or specific photo types, which streamlines the user experience and reduces the endless scrolling that the new layout sometimes invites.

Room for Improvement

Despite these laudable advancements, the updated iOS 18 Photos app can still feel a bit congested upon launch. A possible solution would be to reduce the visual footprint of the photo library at first glance to create a more spacious feel. A balanced split screen that maintains visibility of selected collections would probably enhance the user experience by avoiding a sense of clutter.

Apple seems receptive to feedback, as they have shown a willingness to modify the app's look following its initial launch. Early beta users noted the ability to scroll horizontally to access memories, collections, and favorites. I initially missed that feature, as memories are a highlight for many users, including myself. It would truly elevate the experience if Apple could find a way to feature the Memories section more prominently, given Apple Intelligence's innovation in creating Memory Movies through text prompts.

Nonetheless, these suggestions are based on fine-tuning an already effective redesign.
