"Mars offers life insurance for humanity as a whole," Musk said. "We need to become a multiplanetary species because eventually, the sun will destroy Earth." Musk estimates we have about 450 million years before Earth becomes uninhabitable. Thankfully, this timeline gives SpaceX room to innovate and test technologies necessary for making Mars settlement a reality.

Starship has already flown eight times, with two test missions this year showing partial success despite some setbacks.
