In a shocking incident that has left the community reeling, a 70-year-old man is now cooperating with authorities following a hit-and-run involving an e-bike rider in Hougang, Singapore.
The alarming events unfolded around 6:40 PM on July 13, at the bustling intersection of Hougang Avenue 3 and Upper Serangoon Road. Eyewitnesses were stunned as they witnessed a car collide with a power-assisted bicycle.
Footage shared by the road safety group SG Road Vigilante on Facebook captured the chaotic scene. The video shows the unfortunate e-bike rider waiting at a traffic island, only to be blindsided when a car barreled down the roadway, careening onto the pavement and sending a street sign flying.
The jaw-dropping impact launched the rider into the air, landing in the middle of the road — a heart-stopping moment as he narrowly avoided getting struck by two other vehicles rushing past.
After slamming into a traffic light and coming to a halt, the driver of the vehicle astonishingly fled the scene, but not before the rider struggled to regain his footing and slowly made his way back to the safety of the traffic island.
Witnesses rushed to his aid, but the e-bike was left in ruins, nothing more than a heap of broken parts and shattered dreams.
Miraculously, the 23-year-old rider was conscious when transported to Sengkang General Hospital, where he is currently receiving emergency care.
As the investigation unfolds, the driver's cooperation with the police raises questions about the circumstances leading to this reckless act. The community calls for justice, hoping that this will lead to stricter road safety measures for all.
