**SINGAPORE:** In a shocking turn of events that stemmed from a seemingly innocent family celebration, 61-year-old Koh Chiew Hwa found herself behind bars after driving drunk following a Chinese New Year gathering, causing a serious accident that left a motorcyclist and his passenger injured.

The crash occurred around 9:15 PM on February 5, 2023, in Bukit Panjang when Koh made a discretionary right turn at a traffic junction, colliding with a motorcycle traveling straight through the green light. The impact was severe; the 22-year-old motorcyclist suffered multiple fractures and underwent surgery, while his female passenger sustained serious injuries prompting her to require significant medical attention.

Eyewitness accounts reported how Koh failed to stop or even check on the victims immediately following the collision. Instead, she moved her vehicle away from the accident scene and only returned about 30 minutes later at the behest of her husband, who urged her to report the incident. Upon her delayed return, police officers quickly identified her as the driver involved due to her drunken state, which included slurred speech and a distinct smell of alcohol.

Koh was arrested and subjected to a breath test, which notably registered 46 micrograms of alcohol per 100 milliliters of breath, exceeding the legal limit of 35 micrograms. By the time of her sentencing on September 27, a devastated community had already begun grappling with the aftermath of her irresponsible actions.

At court, she faced charges of drink driving and causing grievous hurt due to her reckless disregard for others' safety.
