In a startling incident that unfolded on Tuesday evening in Toa Payoh, Singapore, three individuals, including two young children, were rescued by the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) following a significant collapse of a mezzanine floor and storage racks in a warehouse.

The SCDF received the emergency call at approximately 5:50 PM regarding the unfortunate accident that took place at 11 Toa Payoh Industrial Park. Responding swiftly, firefighters from the Bishan Fire Station, alongside specialized teams from SCDF’s Special Response Unit and Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team, rushed to the scene.

Initially, four individuals were trapped beneath heaps of rugs as a direct consequence of the collapse. Remarkably, one adult managed to extricate himself and promptly alerted the authorities about his three companions still pinned under the debris.

Upon arrival, the brave firefighters and rescue teams conducted a thorough search of the affected area, which spanned roughly 20 meters by 10 meters. They were assisted by two specially trained SCDF search dogs, enhancing their efforts in locating the trapped individuals.

In a concerted effort that lasted around 90 minutes, rescue personnel worked tirelessly, removing massive piles of rugs and cutting through the wreckage of the storage racks to safely reach the three individuals. This intense operation culminated in their successful rescue.

Subsequently, all four trapped individuals were transported to local hospitals for evaluation and care—adults were taken to Tan Tock Seng Hospital while the children were sent to KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital. Thankfully, SCDF reported that all four were conscious during the transfer, which is a reassuring sign given the circumstances.

This incident highlights not only the dangers present in warehouse environments but also the quick response and efficient rescue efforts by the SCDF, underscoring their commitment to public safety. Stay tuned for further updates on the conditions of the rescued individuals!
