Get ready to plunge into a much larger underwater adventure! Unknown Worlds has just unveiled a thrilling 10-minute Q&A packed with details about the highly anticipated Subnautica 2.
A Bigger World Awaits!
Curious about the size of Subnautica 2’s world? According to lead developer MacDonald, the playable map will be significantly larger than the original Subnautica and even its sequel, Below Zero. While the exact dimensions and depths are still under wraps, fans can expect breathtaking, handcrafted landscapes created by a talented team.
"We’re striving for this to be the grandest and most exhilarating Subnautica experience yet by the time we launch the full version in a few years,” MacDonald promises.
New Vehicles on the Horizon!
However, don’t expect the classic Cyclops, Seamoth, and Sea Truck to make a return. Instead, the development team is crafting entirely new vehicles designed for the game’s novel environments. Abramo added that while a large sub won't debut in early access, they’re diligently working on it. Exciting times ahead!
Early Access Launch & Multiplayer Fun
Though a release date is still shrouded in mystery, we do know that early access is slated for later this year, exclusively for PC and Xbox. Unfortunately, PlayStation users will have to wait until a full release, as no early access can be launched on those consoles just yet. And as for VR? That’s still on the back burner.
Connect With Friends!
Currently, proximity chat isn’t planned, but the team is exploring the option. In the meantime, players are encouraged to connect through Discord.
A New Planet to Explore!
This new chapter in the Subnautica series supports up to four players, transporting them to an entirely new planet filled with unique environments, flora, and fauna to discover. Mark your calendars for a deep-sea adventure later in 2025 on PC and Xbox Series, with Game Pass perks for premium subscribers.
Expectations Are High!
The original Subnautica received rave reviews, scoring a 9.1 for its captivating survival gameplay and chilling underwater horror. Following that footprint, Subnautica: Below Zero also impressed with a stellar score of 9 out of 10. Will Subnautica 2 surpass its predecessors? Only time will tell, but the anticipation is certainly building!
