Naked & Famous: The Heavyweight Champion of Denim

Canadian denim brand Naked & Famous is breaking boundaries with their latest offering: the Super Heavyweight 40 oz. Indigo Selvedge jeans. Founder Brandon Svarc described this remarkable fabric as a “super beefy” iteration of their usual indigo rope-dyed Japanese denim. Crafted in Okayama, the fabric is a staggering four times heavier than conventional denim, which means it truly deserves a spot in the heavyweight category.

In an impressive feat of craftsmanship, assembling just one pair of these unsanforized jeans demands two skilled operators working for several days, utilizing specialized sewing machines custom-made for horse saddles. Talk about dedication! Additionally, they have incorporated custom details like a double-thick 30 oz. cowhide leather patch hand-stitched with elk sinew and long-lasting 100% copper rivets typically reserved for leather goods.

The jeans also showcase a bronze long button, a durable Waldes zipper from Japan, and a signature red selvedge ID. An updated 5 oz. vegetable tan leather label has replaced the usual woven label, and to complete the oversized theme, the pocket flasher is constructed from multiple layers of corrugated cardboard. The launch of these extraordinary jeans was exclusively at Tate + Yoko in Montreal.

Cone Denim: Celebrating Legacy through Monopoly

Iconic denim manufacturer Cone Denim is now a part of pop culture with its inclusion in the Greensboro Edition of Monopoly produced by Top Trumps. Representing pivotal landmarks that highlight Greensboro's charm and rich history, Cone Denim's headquarters features as a property for players to invest in, alongside local favorites like the Greensboro Science Center and Lake Brandt.

Founded in 1891 by brothers Moses and Ceasar Cone, the company made history with the establishment of the White Oak Cotton Mill in 1905. This mill remarkably supplied one-third of the world’s denim until its closure, and its vintage selvedge looms continue to be revered in the industry. Don’t miss your chance to own a piece of this history for just $39.99!

Muji: A Sustainable Denim Experience

Japanese retailer Muji Labo is embarking on a journey to blend tradition with modernity in their Spring/Summer 2025 collection. This year's offerings emphasize the versatility of denim, reimagined through playful skorts and structured gilets, alongside unique washi-blended jeans.

The collection emphasizes environmentally conscious practices, utilizing a mix of natural materials in its pieces. For instance, their trucker jackets and jeans combine 83% cotton with 12% traditional Japanese washi paper—a fabric derived from the Paper Mulberry plant, prized for its durability and moisture-absorbing properties.

Additionally, the line features A-line skirts and wide-leg trousers crafted from hemp blends, giving them a luxurious linen-like texture. With an assortment including water-repellent outerwear and silk-linen tops, Muji Labo is setting a new standard for sustainable, stylish denim wear.
