DeepSeek Makes a Comeback!

SEOUL: Exciting news for tech enthusiasts! After a two-month hiatus, the Chinese AI service DeepSeek is once again available on South Korean app markets as of Monday, April 28.

The Controversy Behind the Suspension

DeepSeek's troubles began in February when authorities flagged serious concerns over user data protection. The Personal Information Protection Commission of South Korea revealed that DeepSeek had unauthorizedly transferred user data and prompts shortly after its launch in January.

A Fresh Start with Improved Privacy Policies

Following the suspension, DeepSeek has implemented changes to reinforce its commitment to user privacy. The app is now downloadable from major platforms, including Apple's App Store and Google Play Store, with a revised privacy policy.

In this updated policy, DeepSeek assures users that it processes personal information in compliance with South Korea's Personal Information Protection Act. Importantly, users are given the choice to refuse the transfer of their data to various companies based in China and the U.S.

Looking Ahead: A Cautious Re-Entry

While DeepSeek’s return is welcomed, the road ahead may still hold challenges. The app's team has yet to provide an official comment about the relaunch as of Monday. However, South Korea’s data protection agency confirms that DeepSeek voluntarily chose to re-enter the market, taking steps to partially address previous recommendations.

Will DeepSeek successfully regain the trust of South Korean users? Only time will tell, but for now, the app’s comeback is certainly generating buzz in the tech community!
