A Hidden Danger on the Cycling Path
A cyclist is recovering from serious injuries after a sudden accident caused by a seemingly camouflaged hump on the road in Bishan. The incident took place on July 23 at the T-junction of Bishan Street 22 and 23 at approximately 5:10 PM.
Stomper Scela, who encountered the hump while riding, shared his harrowing experience: "I was attempting to transition from the cycling path to the road when I collided with this hidden danger. I ended up breaking one wrist and severely spraining the other."
Concerns Over Safety Ignored?
The hump, painted black to blend in with the road surface, poses a significant risk especially at night when visibility is low. Scela expressed his frustrations about the lack of action from authorities since he reported the incident more than a month ago.
"I feel like I’m being blamed for the accident instead of them acknowledging the serious visibility issue with the hump," he lamented. Despite his injuries and ongoing medical leave, which includes another four weeks of recuperation time after a review and X-ray on September 12, he remains determined to raise awareness.
Call for Action and Awareness
Scela hopes this alarming incident will not only safeguard future cyclists but also spur local authorities into action. "I want other cyclists to be aware of this hazard so they can avoid similar fates," he stated.
A Pattern of Neglect?
In a concerning parallel, another pedestrian suffered injuries just last month after tripping over an uneven surface along East Coast Road. This pedestrian also reported not seeing the black hump that caused his fall, leading to immediate repair works.
These incidents highlight a pressing need for improved road safety measures to prevent further injuries among cyclists and pedestrians alike. Will this be the wake-up call authorities need to address these hidden dangers?
