In a bold move to quell growing rumors, Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has categorically denied claims that he threatened to resign over the potential departure of club captain Marc Guehi.
During a recent press conference before the upcoming match against Sunderland, Glasner addressed the situation head-on. "It's time to set the record straight for our fans," he asserted. "Firstly, I never threatened to leave the club—never! Secondly, after several discussions, our chairman asked whether we could manage the season without Marc. I made it clear that my commitment to the club remains unwavering."
These statements aim to dispel the cloud of discontent surrounding Glasner’s relationship with Chairman Steve Parish, who has been responsible for managing transfers in the wake of Dougie Freedman's departure.
Glasner took the opportunity to extol Guehi's virtues, describing the England international as a "very honest person." He expressed confidence in Guehi's commitment to the club, stating, "I was never worried about this situation, and it brings me relief that he chose to honor his contract."
Despite Liverpool’s reported bid for Guehi, Glasner remains optimistic about his future at the club, saying, "The most important thing is that everything ended well. Marc is set to lead us forward."
On transfer deadline day, Palace did secure a young talent, France U21 defender Jaydee Canvot from Toulouse, in a deal that could rise to £22.5 million. However, Glasner warned fans that Canvot likely wouldn't replace Guehi immediately due to his inexperience.
With Christmas around the corner, there's good news on the injury front as well; Glasner indicated that Adam Wharton and Ismaila Sarr's injuries are less severe than initially thought, and he hopes both will return for the pivotal clash against Liverpool soon, alongside striker Eddie Nketiah.
