SINGAPORE – The search continues for a crocodile that was spotted on March 18 near Neo Tiew Crescent, close to the Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve. The National Parks Board (NParks) has been racing against time to locate this elusive reptile, which has mysteriously evaded capture since reports of its sighting emerged.

On March 19, Cyrena Lin, the director of wildlife management and outreach at NParks, updated the public on the ongoing search. Although NParks responded promptly to the sighting, they have yet to locate the crocodile, which was last seen near Long Kuan Hung Crocodile Farm.

As part of their investigation, NParks conducted an inspection of the crocodile farm nearby. Fortunately, all fences and enclosures were reportedly secure, casting doubt on whether the crocodile could have escaped from that location.

Community vigilance has been encouraged, as local business operators and farms in the area have been alerted to keep an eye out for any signs of the reptile. In a remarkable twist to the story, a Facebook user known only as Mr. Koo played a pivotal role in alerting authorities. He shared two photos of the crocodile on the Singapore Wildlife Sightings page at around 6:40 PM on the same day, having captured the reptile during his drive.

Mr. Koo revealed that he first noticed the crocodile on the road around 1 PM, leading him to speculate that it may have wandered from the nearby Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve, renowned for its diverse wildlife.

In light of this unexpected encounter, NParks has issued a safety advisory to the public. Residents and visitors are urged to remain calm and avoid any confrontation with the crocodile. "If you see one, please back away and do not approach, provoke, or feed it," NParks warned, emphasizing the need for caution.

Anyone who encounters the crocodile or has information related to its sightings is encouraged to contact NParks at 1800-476-1600.
