COVID-19 Cases on the Rise

June 17, 2025 – In a concerning turn of events, Myanmar has witnessed a notable uptick in COVID-19 cases, with 52 new infections reported over the past week. The Ministry of Health's latest figures reveal a growing trend that’s alarming health officials.

Recent Testing Results Reveal Alarming Trends

Between June 8 and June 15, the country conducted tests on 2,285 suspected COVID-19 cases, resulting in a positivity rate of 2.28%. Thankfully, no deaths have been reported. This marks an increase from the previous week, where only 31 cases were confirmed out of 2,154 tests—a positivity rate of just 1.44%.

What’s Driving the Increase?

Earlier trends show a gradual rise as well. From May 25 to June 1, only 17 individuals tested positive, all traced back to townships in the Yangon Region. Officials are now closely monitoring the situation to understand the causes behind this sudden surge.
