Commuters Face Unprecedented Delays at Boon Lay MRT; Avoid Rail Systems!

2024-10-01

SINGAPORE: A warning has been issued for commuters heading to Boon Lay MRT as reports surface of a staggering queue extending all the way into the bus interchange. Early Monday morning (September 30), a local Reddit user highlighted the frustrating situation, noting that those in line could face a waiting time of at least an hour, with photographs capturing the lengthy queue emphasizing the gravity of the issue.

"The queue starts at the MRT and snakes all the way into the bus interchange. Expect to wait between 1 to 1.5 hours just to get to the gantry. It’s advisable to avoid the MRT during this peak time," the user advised. They also recommended passengers opt for the free bridging bus service as an alternative.

This congestion comes after a series of disruptions that began last Wednesday when a KHI train, which had been in service for over 35 years, suffered a malfunction. The train emitted smoke while en route to the Ulu Pandan Depot, leading to damage to the power cables and a subsequent power trip that affected train operations on the East-West Line. Although shuttle trains and bus services were initiated to assist commuters, the anticipated full resumption of train services was pushed back to October 1 (Tuesday) for safety checks.

The ongoing delays have frustrated eager commuters, with one Reddit user trapped in the line mentioning, "I'm stuck here! The queue is absolutely insane. Why is the train frequency only every 7 minutes?" Others echoed similar hardships, citing that queues for trains heading towards Tuas also spiraled out of control.

It appears the rain may have exacerbated the situation. One commuter suggested that officials should experience the delays firsthand by commuting via the troubled MRT lines during the ongoing disruptions. Despite the provision of shuttle trains from Jurong East to Boon Lay, the lengthy waits and unpredictable conditions continue to plague those relying on public transport.

In conclusion, if you’re planning to travel in and out of Boon Lay MRT, consider alternative routes. The current chaos has made commuting an arduous task, sparking outrage and frustration among many. Stay tuned for more updates as we monitor the evolving situation!
