Commonwealth Residents Face Water Supply Interruptions Due to Construction Mishap

SINGAPORE – Residents of Commonwealth faced unexpected water supply disruptions on September 24, following damage to a water pipe during ongoing construction for a Build-To-Order (BTO) project.

The incident occurred in the evening while workers were engaged in construction activities for the Tanglin Halt Courtyard. In a series of updates on social media, the Housing and Development Board (HDB) and the national water agency, Public Utilities Board (PUB), informed residents about the situation.

The disruption primarily affected households on the lower floors of several HDB blocks neighboring the construction site. Specifically, residents in Blocks 48A (next to Tanglin Halt Market), 89, 90, and 91 along Tanglin Halt Road, along with Block 88's multi-storey car park and Blocks 47 to 54 on Commonwealth Drive, reported the loss of water supply.

In response, PUB quickly mobilized a service crew to isolate the leak source. They dispatched two water wagons to Block 49 Tanglin Halt Road to provide temporary relief to affected households. Additionally, the HDB's contractors distributed mineral water to residents in impacted units to ensure they had access to drinking water during the disruption.

According to PUB, the water supply was fully restored by 8 PM the same evening, and repair works were underway. They are actively investigating the incident to determine the cause of the pipe damage and may take enforcement action if warranted.

In light of this incident, residents have been reminded of the importance of monitoring updates regarding any construction work that could affect their daily lives.
