Notably, China's recent blockbuster video game, *Black Myth: Wukong*, has employed AI and machine learning to enhance the behaviors of non-playable characters, creating a more engaging and reactive gameplay experience.

With the largest pool of internet users globally, China has the ideal environment for cultivating novel AI applications. Steve Shen, a managing partner at Empower, highlights, “China's massive single market offers abundant opportunities for innovation, paired with the world's largest manufacturing base where AI can optimize robotics for increased productivity.”

Fang asserts this transition is possible because “China excels at transforming technology into products,” which suggests that significant advancements in various sectors are on the horizon.

Harnessing a Talented Workforce

China boasts a colossal talent pool with approximately 3.7 million STEM graduates each year, dwarfed only by the U.S., which produces around 800,000. What’s more, Chinese researchers publish the greatest number of AI academic papers worldwide, although the U.S. still leads in highly-cited work. Despite trailing in high-end AI research, China is rapidly integrating AI solutions into real-world applications, leveraging its vast consumer market and extensive data resources to refine algorithms and improve product accuracy.

Patrick Liu, a consultant at Roland Berger, points out the benefits of having a wealth of data: “Massive data sets lead to more precise and effective products, generating better market performance, which in turn attracts even more consumers, creating a positive feedback loop.”
