In a generous move to combat pediatric cancers, CFM Indosuez Wealth Management, in partnership with Crédit Agricole CIB, has presented a remarkable donation of over €51,000 to the Fondation Flavien. This contribution will significantly bolster research efforts focused on pediatric cancers by funding the "Brain Stem Cells and Tumours" team at the Centre Scientifique de Monaco, under the leadership of Dr. Vincent Picco.

Unleashing the Power of the Sea Anemone

The research aims to unlock the mysteries of pediatric cancers, which often share characteristics with embryonic cells. Dr. Picco noted that disruptions during the development of the nervous system in fetuses may lead to these cancers. However, studying these processes through traditional vertebrate models, like laboratory mice, poses significant complexities and ethical dilemmas.

To address these challenges, an innovative collaboration has been established with Dr. Eric Röttinger's team at the Cancer and Ageing Research Institute in Nice. They focus on the Nematostella vectensis, a type of sea anemone with a remarkably simple nervous system that possesses genetic similarities to humans. This research offers unique opportunities for genetic manipulation during the anemone's embryonic development, potentially paving the way for new therapies tailored to combat pediatric cancers.
