SINGAPORE – Do you know a remarkable individual or group that has gone above and beyond for our community? The Straits Times wants to hear from you! It’s that time again when we search for the next Singaporean of the Year, a prestigious award celebrating individuals or groups whose extraordinary contributions have uplifted society.

This year, we’re excited to introduce not just one, but two dazzling new award categories: the Straits Times Singaporean of the Year (International Impact) and the Young Singaporean of the Year.

Shining a Light on Global Changemakers!

The International Impact Award intends to spotlight a Singaporean or organization that has made waves beyond our shores, enhancing Singapore's global standing through impactful projects or initiatives that benefitted communities abroad.

Empowering Our Youth!

Meanwhile, the Young Singaporean of the Year award will recognize an outstanding Singaporean under 18 who embodies qualities like courage, empathy, and kindness, making a difference among peers. This new category aims to uncover the incredible potential of our young leaders.

ST editor Jaime Ho expressed enthusiasm for these new awards, highlighting the potential stories of young Singaporeans who are actively making a positive difference in their communities.

A Legacy of Honor!

In the past, the Singaporean of the Year has celebrated trailblazers like Olympic gold medalist Joseph Schooling and inspiring community servants like Mr. Koh Seng Choon, the founder of Dignity Kitchen, which employs individuals with disabilities.

Noteworthy winners include former nurse Ronita Paul and Geraldine Lee, who created the Arc Children's Centre, providing joyful experiences for children battling cancer. And let’s not forget heartwarming tales like that of Mr. Sakthibalan Balathandautham, a selfless organ donor.

Join the Celebration!

To be eligible for the Singaporean of the Year 2025 Award, nominees must have made headlines this year. As we enter our 11th year of this heartfelt tradition, UBS Singapore proudly sponsors the award, cementing its place as a beacon of the Singapore spirit—showcasing resilience, compassion, and courage.

Mr. Edmund Koh from UBS Asia-Pacific remarked on the award's significance while expressing excitement about the new categories, encouraging extraordinary contributions at home and internationally.

Singapore Airlines (SIA) and Millennium Hotels and Resorts have joined hands as partners, hoping this year’s nominees inspire every Singaporean to contribute towards a kinder society. SIA's Chief Sustainability Officer, Ms. Lee Wen Fen, emphasizes this message, alongside Mr. Kwek Eik Sheng from Millennium Hotels, who underlines the importance of recognizing the passion of our youth.

The Straits Times will showcase stories of the finalists ahead of the awards ceremony in March 2026, where the winners of the Singaporean of the Year, Young Singaporean of the Year, and International Impact Award will be revealed. Don't miss this opportunity to celebrate our heroes!
