SINGAPORE – At the highly anticipated Singapore Motorshow 2025, one exhibit has taken the spotlight: BYD's extravagant million-dollar booth. Nestled within the Suntec Singapore Convention and Exhibition Centre, this display boasts the striking U9 electric supercar, part of BYD’s luxury sub-brand, Yangwang.

The U9 is a marvel of modern engineering, generating an astonishing 960kW (1,287hp) from four electric motors, enabling it to reach 100 km/h in a mere 2.36 seconds. But the real showstopper? This supercar can literally ‘dance’ on the exhibit floor thanks to its advanced active suspension system, which adjusts each corner’s height in real time. Demonstrations of this unique feature are scheduled for 2:30 PM and 6 PM daily. However, it’s important to note that the U9 won't be available for sale in Singapore anytime soon.

In addition to the U9, BYD is showcasing its more accessible models, including the M6, Atto 3, and the recently unveiled Sealion 7, a mid-sized electric SUV poised to disrupt the market.

Not to be outdone, BMW's booth has garnered attention with its massive illuminated branding and a luxurious mezzanine floor exclusively for new BMW owners. Guests can enjoy cocktails and snacks while taking in a panoramic view of the hall from the comfort of this elevated lounge.

The Motorshow also reveals three intriguing upcoming models not yet approved for local sales: the locally manufactured Kia EV5 SUV, the eye-catching Smart #5 SUV, and the much-anticipated facelift of the Toyota GR Yaris, which will feature an automatic transmission for the first time.

Kia revealed that the EV5 will be produced at the Hyundai Motor Group Innovation Center Singapore (HMGICS) and is expected to launch by the second quarter of 2025, although precise pricing and specifications remain under wraps.

Meanwhile, the Smart #5, a product of the Mercedes-Benz and Geely partnership, makes its first appearance outside of China and Australia. It’s anticipated to arrive in Singapore in late 2025.

Despite the electric focus, the event also showcases a range of vehicles featuring traditional internal combustion engines, including the refreshed BMW 1-Series, Honda Accord, Hyundai Tucson, and Mini Cooper Convertible. Among these, the facelifted Toyota GR Yaris stands out, now equipped with an eight-speed automatic gearbox and enhanced performance metrics, peaking at 276hp.

While the updated GR Yaris won’t be for sale until May, it's pegged to be priced around $240,000 without the Certificate of Entitlement (COE), landing it in a competitive space alongside other high-performance models like the Volkswagen Golf R.

Attendees of the Motorshow can explore the various exhibits across multiple floors, with highlights from both cutting-edge electric vehicles and stylish gas-powered cars.

Don’t miss your chance to experience all this automotive excitement at Singapore Motorshow 2025! The event runs from January 9 to January 12, with tickets available for $10. Prepare to be amazed by advancements in the automotive world and possibly discover your next dream car.
