Crackdown on Non-Compliant Mobility Devices
SINGAPORE – The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has made a significant move against illegal mobility practices, seizing a staggering 151 non-compliant devices in a recent enforcement campaign carried out over the last two months.
On July 11, the LTA revealed that it identified a total of 232 active mobility offences while collaborating with local police departments from Marina Bay, Punggol, and Geylang. The targeted operation aimed to crack down on large gatherings of e-bike users, particularly during the busy June school holidays.
What’s the Offense?
Last month’s operations focused on various violations, including the use of power-assisted bicycles, also known as e-bikes, that were found to have improper or missing registration plates. Additionally, authorities caught users with illegally modified e-bikes and bicycles lacking essential safety features like working handbrakes.
Heavy Penalties Await Offenders!
The consequences for first-time offenders caught with improper or obscured e-bike number plates are serious. They could face fines reaching up to $1,000, a potential jail term of three months, or both! For those using non-compliant devices on public paths, the stakes are even higher—fines can soar to $10,000, along with possible six-month jail sentences.
With authorities ramping up enforcement, users are urged to ensure their mobility devices meet regulations to avoid hefty penalties and contribute to safer roads.
